Overview of lightning warning systems and their role in risk management of the lightning hazard.

Abstract:
This paper will describe the various technologies used in lightning detection and comment upon the effectiveness and cost/benefit of each of them. The paper will discuss signalling methodologies; will examine response capabilities of persons to whom the signalling is directed; will present statistical findings about lightning injuries and deaths in the USA; and will explore the role of Risk Management with respect to lightning safety.
